Summary

Sony's very first high-definition FD Trinitron released in North America in late 1998, first retailing for a whopping $9K(!) Manufactured in Mexico. An incredible-looking set for the time, but one that would soon be outclassed by subsequent Hi-Scan models...

Notes

This set uses the HA-1 chassis that has a few interesting quirks... For one, while it cannot natively accept 720 on its own, it can do native 540p/1080i without any lag.

Component input can accept 480i and 1080i, which is kind of odd. But given how the DVD format and digital broadcasting was the target use for this set, it makes sense.

There is an external digital tuner box that came with this set to receive digital OTA broadcasting. This box can connect over a proprietary connection to the TV. It can convert 480p and 720p to 540p/1080i.

The tube in this set was made in Japan and would be seen in many Hi-Scan Trinitron models all the way until the XBR970 in 2006.

Has a separate subwoofer for added bass.
